TTRPGs for Child Abuse in Texas!

Few things makes me as disgusted and angry as abusing children, which is why I'm particularly sickened by all the "game designers" supporting this.

Texas is trying to protect kids from genital mutilation, chemical castration, and irreversible puberty blockers.  Parents trying to "trans" their kids is wrong and immoral.  It should be illegal.

If a child isn't old enough to choose their own bedtime, they aren't old enough to make serious medical decisions that will affect their entire life.  There's a reason that suicide rates among transgender individuals is sky-high!

The itch.io platform should be ashamed of itself.  Funding child abuse should never be tolerated!

Protect our kids, support the Texas law, and send these radical-leftists and their equally unhinged gender ideology back to the landfill of disastrous ideas where they belong (right next to Communism).

Do what you can to speak up and fight back...

    1. Yes, trans-species. The difference... I'm an adult, there's no surgery or drugs involved, and I'm not trying to deceive anyone - I appear human and not trying to convince anyone that I'm not. My being trans-species is an identification.

But thanks for remembering that I view myself as za'akier!

  2. There are all sorts of problems with this order.

First, the fact that it was written after they failed to pass the bill on it. Anytime an executive branch pushes an order through to sidestep our elected state representatives' decisions, that should raise an alarm.

Secondly, while Paxton used legitimate concerns to rationalize his opinion, it boils down to the fact that it's an authoritarian measure. What often gets lost in this process is that this is the government saying that they should be able to impede the parents, doctors, and kids all agreeing that this is in their best interest. We have to be pretty damn sure things are bad for them before employing these kinds of protectionist measures.

If you read Paxton's opinion, it mostly boils down to the potential side effects. When it comes to sex-change operations, 16 is generally the youngest this will happen. It's hard to deny that's an irreversible transition that will impact their ability to reproduce, but this would be a decision made by a youth just 2 years shy of being 18, their parents, and their doctor. I'm not really cool with the government getting in the way.

Sidenote: a lot of Paxton's other justifications for why the treatments meet the statutory definitions of "abuse" are pretty thin, and could be used to justify calling all kinds of things abuse that I'm pretty sure they aren't intending.

Now, since Abbott is going through the "abuse" avenue, we have to think about the logistics here. This is clearly the consolation prize to passing a law in his fight against trans kids. Rather than trying to get legislation passed to simply outlaw the treatments, he's demanding that people report the families (or face criminal charges if they fail to report), that the families get investigated, that the families fight it out in court, and ultimately he's hoping the judges will put court orders on the families to prevent them from getting the kids treatment. Some judges will enforce it, some won't. Either way, he's pissing away millions in tax dollars in court fees, social service work hours, and creating a situation where professionals will face criminal prosecution if they don't report these families en masse for doing something that's not illegal, that will probably be done anyway once they turn 18, and that is being agreed on in unison by the parents, the kids, and the kids' doctors.

If Abbott wanted to do this the right way, he'd advocate for legislation. This is the wrong way.

As to this itchio bundle, the cause seems to be a good one.

Put yourself in the shoes of these kids, Venger. They're dealing with gender dysphoria, a lot of them have unsupportive families, they deal with jerks at school, and now the kids whose parents are supportive get to see their parents get bullied by the state.

    1. Alternatively, put yourself in the shoes of dead children and young adults who committed suicide (or wish they were dead) because society, the media, misguided (or evil) parents, and activist educators have decided that coming out as trans is stunning and brave, rather than a mental illness as you stated, gender dysphoria.

    2. That's backwards, man. I hate to do a "no, u," but all the trans/nonbinary people I know have struggled with being forced into conformity, not struggled with being encouraged to be themselves. I agree that people shouldn't push kids into thinking they're trans/NB when they aren't, but I think that's the exception rather than the rule.

The transition regret thing is real, but that's why I think there should be best practices about minimum age requirements and other safeguards to make sure it's legit and they and their parents are giving informed consent on the matter.

I think you should really rethink how you're going about all of this. Saying we're supporting "child abuse" is disingenuous at best.

    3. I understand that you don't think it's child abuse, and I believe that your motives are well intentioned. But I still feel the way I do.

If we already agree on minimum age requirements, then what's the problem? Just wait until 18 (I'd prefer 21 because of continued brain development, but that's just me). Young adults -even children - sometimes have destructive impulses. Don't make them pay with their lives.

You know there are far-left activists who just want to spread the LGBTQ+ agenda regardless of who it hurts, right?

Except that you misunderstand how gender-affiriming care works, as does the bill: https://www.texastribune.org/2022/02/28/texas-transgender-child-abuse/

  3. Technically, I don't agree with the state putting those minimum age requirements, but that doctors will do what's in the interest of their patients and that parents will do what's in the interest of their kids.

Doctors don't want to get sued for malpractice, so they're inclined to make sure they do the right thing for each kid.

Here's a really good article where doctors explain some of these concerns.

The TLDR is that most of the concerns are very overblown.

I believe that there are deranged activists out there, but I don't believe that invalidates the causes of making the world safer for LGBTQ people to be themselves. Unfortunately, the loudest and most irrational voices will always be put front and center by their opposition.

    1. If there's a way to foster safety for all without an activist agenda putting its thumb on the scale, I'm all for it.

Is that Texas law perfect? Probably not, but it's something... a step in the right direction, from my point of view.

As a thought experiment, I try to imagine what our society and culture would look like if conservatives and moderates did absolutely nothing, no pushback, no laws or regulations, just let the left, special interests, and LGBTQ+ activists do as they please for 20 years. If we're being honest with ourselves, I think we have to conclude it would be a madhouse of shocking depravity, like Sodom and Gamorrah on blue-dreamers!

While that sounds like an interesting fantasy or dungeon to explore, I wouldn't want to live in that world.

All I'm trying to do is grit the path, slowing down the slippery slope until cooler heads prevail. This is what compromise looks like.
