I'm a little surprised to see the greater OSR blogosphere (and probably vlogosphere, too) silent on what's going on in the United States right now.
On the one hand, I'm glad that our RPG hobby is trying to stay out of politics. But this is bigger than any dispute of policy or candidate or vision for the country. The current party in power is weaponizing their DOJ to "get" the former President and opposition's frontrunner candidate before next year's election.
This political prosecution is highlighted by the juxtaposition of how Hunter and Joe Biden are being treated (how all Democrats are treated) with the blind eye and sweetheart deals - protecting the Biden crime family's principle "bag man" from future prosecution. The media is complicit in this banana republic handling of justice. They're perfectly happy for America to devolve into a third world nation, as long as the power and control of the ruling class is maintained.
In case you've only been watching MSNBC and CNN, I'll provide you with some worthwhile videos... I'm a big fan of the Black Conservative Perspective, though I love Donald Trump, I'm very much supportive of Vivek Ramaswamy - he's dynamite in that clip... and this one by Ben Shapiro.
Years from now, folks like you and me, our RPG descendants, will be writing games and adventures that focus on this time period we're currently in. Just like in the 80s you had a backdrop of the cold war between Soviet Communism and Western civilization, 15 or 20 years from now, we'll be seeing board games, RPGs, card games, comic-books, TV shows, and movies about the 2014 - 2024 era.
Perhaps we can't see it because we're so close - we're in it right now! Nevertheless, those of us who see this as clownworld on steroids are only having our instincts solidified. Freedom is dying. If the "liberal" establishment of radical-leftists, progressives, Commies, Socialists, DEI officers, and media shills refusing to ask questions or investigate anything when it's their side... if they can can do this to a former President of the United States, what's to stop them from doing it to us?
If covid-19 showed us that we can't trust the government, this shit right here is the icing on the authoritarian cake. Without our 2nd amendment (they're already trying to take away our 1st with these ridiculous indictments), we might as well be Communist China... or Canada.
Oh sure, maybe individual citizens with conservative or center-right views won't be the target of a Federal indictment, but big tech can still cancel, deplatform, demonetize, and censor us. If they can ban us from the town square, polite society, and the digital marketplace for different political views, then America is dead.
I mean, we already know that Obama spied on Trump's campaign (just imagine the establishment outrage if his name had been Nixon with a little "R" next to it), that Hilary (aside from her own classified document scandal, without the benefit of being President) manufactured the Russian collusion witch-hunt... we have the texts, what's app messages, phone calls, millions of foreign dollars, whistleblowers, ex-business partners, Joe Biden admitting his quid pro quo in front of an audience on tape, Hunter's laptop, and incriminating photos. Democrats, the media, and your run-of-the-mill liberal just can't find any evidence!
Imagine living in a country where 90% of everything you read, see, and hear is propaganda. January 6th was staged (Trump himself asked for better security that was denied by Pelosi - Trump had just seen what left-leaning protestors could do when they rioted outside the White House during 8 months of Antifa / BLM riots - even this favorable coverage towards the left was almost memory-holed) just as the 2020 election was rigged.
It's like the movie They Live, except Democrats and squish-RINO "uniparty" Republicans are the aliens trying to keep us from noticing what's happening all around us.
In a couple days, I'll blog about something else, something about RPGs. But for today, my thoughts and prayers go to this once great nation going through an existential crisis.
